Rodway hill golf club

The Club was formed in 1991 and started with just 16 members. Over the years the membership has grown to around 230 who enjoy a wide and varied programme of golf competitions throughout the year. The Club has a number of teams playing formal and friendly golf competitions. As a fully affiliated member of Gloucestershire Golf Union and the English Ladies Golf Association, the Club issues handicaps that are recognised throughout the world.

The course on which club members play is a privately owned Pay & Play course and members of Rodway Hill Golf Club do not have to be members of ‘The Course’, though most of them are. Similarly, members of ‘The Course’ do not have to join ‘The Club’, but without club membership they are unable to play in competitions and hold a handicap. Club membership includes local and national affiliation fees (Gloucestershire Golf Union and Golf England). The Club has no differentiation between different categories of members, and everyone pays the same annual subscription (currently £35). Any member is entitled to the same rights as any other member because they are all full members of the same club.

In 1993, the Club was converted to a company limited by guarantee (which means that in the event of insolvency, each member can be called upon to contribute to the Club's debts to a maximum of £1) and the management structure of the club was changed. As with all companies, the business is formally run by a board of directors who are entirely responsible for the operation of the company. The directors are the Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, Handicap Secretary and one further "non-executive" director who need not be otherwise involved in the operational side of the club.

Behind the directors is the General Committee which meets monthly to discuss and decide on, virtually all day to day matters of concern to the Club and its members. There are sub-committees covering Ladies, Seniors, Competitions and Handicaps, which have delegated authority from the General Committee to operate specific parts of the Club's responsibilities. With the exception of the Ladies committee, which has to be elected by the Lady Members, the sub committees are appointed by the General Committee from volunteers. The subcommittees then report back to the main committee for ratification of decisions they would like made.

Since 1997 we have been members of the National Association of Public and Proprietary Golf Clubs and Courses (NAPGC). As such we encourage all of our members to represent our club by entering regional and national competitions. Some have even played at St Andrews!
