LATEST NEWS

Congratulations to Rose Hook and Jean Mullins,  who have progressed to the third round of the Daily Mail Foursomes following wins over pairs from Tewkesbury Park and Cotswold Edge.

Carol's report on the 2015-16 season:

What a Year 2015 proved to be for our Ladies Section!  Many Ladies represent us in the Gloucestershire Ladies Veterans Society and this year success came in the form of Rose Hook winning the Muriel Button Trophy out of a field of some 200 and Jean Mullins, Helen Thompson and Anita Roberts winning at Brickhampton in the Summer Bowmaker.

County wise, Ruth Onions claimed 2nd place playing at Chipping Sodbury in the Coronation Medal, finishing her round in the most appalling weather conditions.  Later in the year we had the honour of hosting the County Greensomes Championship at Rodway, Chloe Smart and Jennie Field coming 2nd.  I received many compliments from visiting players and county officials about our course and hospitality and I feel that we are now on the County’s list of courses to be involved.  Thanks go to Ruth Onions and Chloe Smart for their hard work in making this event a success.

We again entered the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday competitions. We had mixed fortunes in the Daily Mail Foursomes, this being a format Ladies rarely play, but The Mail on Sunday Classic, teams of five, matchplay, saw us progress to the fourth round winning over South Hereford GC, Gloucester GC and Ross-on-Wye GC but finding Cotswold Edge a step too far. I’m not sure if it was the course or the Cotswold Edge ladies who proved formidable. Many thanks to all who were involved.

The icing on the cake for me, this year, has been winning the Severn Vale Challenge Trophy, after being involved from its inception 15 years ago, we finally did it,  no mean feat when playing teams from South Hereford, Forest of Dean, Forest Hills, Cleeve Hill and Sherdons.  Congratulations to all who took part and a special thank you to Hazel for all her organization, confirming the fixtures and sorting out the teams. Well Done Everyone!

Club competitions continue to be well supported throughout the year and we have welcomed a number of new members and we continue to grow in experience and confidence.

I wish to thank all the ladies and my committee for their support, advice and hard work over the past year and confirm that I will have the privilege of continuing to hold the position of Ladies Captain in 2016.  My committee will comprise of

Vice Captain – Jean Mullins, Secretary – Maureen Paul, Handicap Sec – Rose Hook, Severn Vale Rep – Hazel Blandford, Treasurer – Di Hawkins, other committee members – Jill Keates, Barbara Forward and Jackie Fenn.  The position of County Rep will now be Sefton Hooton.
