CLUB NEWS AUGUST 2017

RODWAY HILL HOSTS GLOUCESTER GIRLS

On Sunday 18 July, Rodway Hill hosted the fourth Gloucester Girls Stableford of the season.  After the event, County Junior Organiser Janice Saunders wrot the following to our Ladies Captain, Carol Lane:

‘On behalf of Gloucestershire Girls' Golf (GGG), the girls’ parents and the GloucestershireLadies' County Golf Association, I would like to offer a huge thanks to Rodway Hill GolfClub for kindly inviting the girls to play your stunning course and enjoy the great hospitality.

Rodway Hill GC provided a fantastic day of golf for the 23 girls who played in their fourth Competition Day of the year. The girls thoroughly enjoyed playing your fabulous course and this was reflected in their phenomenal scores and many of them commented on how great the condition was, so please pass on our thanks to the Green Staff.’

The winning scores were well over 40 points!

And here are some pictures of the youngsters in action:

LADY CAPTAIN’S DAY

This was very well supported and raised a total of £384 for the Lady Captain’s charity, Breast Cancer Now. After much deliberation it was decided that it would be inappropriate for the Lady Captain to win her own competition! The winning team was therefore Barbara Forward, Jack Moore and Ben Grieve with 95 points.  Longest drive winners were Eileen Martin and Dave Jenner, and nearest the pin winners Rose Hook and Dave Taylor.

CAPTAIN’S DAY

Captain’s Day is on the 26 August.  It will take the form of a 3 person drawn Texas Scramble with nearest the pins, longest drive, par 3 putter only hole, putting comp, BBQ and raffle. Please see the notice boards for further information.

WELCOME

Welcome to the members section. We are the Club members of Rodway Hill Golf Club.  There are more than two hundred of us, and we pay an annual subscription, currently £35, for which we get the following benefits:

1.     Affiliation to the English Golf Union, Gloucestershire Golf Union and National Association of Public Golf Courses. By belonging to an affiliated Club, members are able to play in competitions organised by the GGU and NAPGC, which in turn gives access to regional and national competitions, and our handicaps and membership are nationally recognised.  Approximately two-thirds of our annual subscription is spent on affiliations.

2.     Access to County Cards.  As members, we are entitled to  annual County Cards, at no additional cost, which enable us to play at other courses, not just in Gloucestershire, for approximately half price green fees.

3.     Official handicaps and entry to club competitions. We organise a range of competitions for men, women and seniors, through which members get their competition handicaps that enable them to play with other golfers across the country.  The Master Scoreboard section of the website records all of our scores, and enables us to track our scores. A significant part of the subscription is spent on administering handicaps and competitions; for example, we provide our Handicap Secretary with a laptop to enter all the result and to link into Master Scoreboard.  There are trophies and prizes for our competitions, and, insofar as possible, the cost of these is met from the competition entry fees.

4.     An annual presentation evening and an Annual General Meeting, at which a drink and refreshments are provided to those who attend from the subscription income.

5.     Through a Committee of volunteers, we liaise with the course owners and managers to ensure that the views of the members are taken into account in course improvements and developments.

6.     An annual calendar of events and competitions is provided to each member, so that we know what is happening when.

7.     Members are entitled to play for Club teams – we run Mens, Ladies and Seniors teams which play a range of matches and in other competitions.

The Club operates as a company, and as such office holders on the Committee are Company Directors.  In this way, we ensure that our members’ financial interests are best protected. Our membership year is the calendar year, so we renew subscriptions in January.
