Club membership

We currently have around 160 Club members – well down on last year, reflecting the fact that a number of players have not renewed, but we have a number of new Members who are most welcome, and are already making their mark in competitions.

Charity presentation

With many thanks to all Members, and especially to last years’ Captains Paul Stevens and Sefton Hooton, we will be donating over £3000 to the Gloucestershire branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in the next month.

World Handicap System

A reminder that the way your handicap is calculated will be changing from November, and that any qualifying scores that you record at the moment will be going towards that new handicap.  England Golf have produced a small leaflet explaining this for players which you can download at https://www.englandgolf.org/download/rules-of-handicapping-player-reference-guide/.  We will also provide further guidance in the coming weeks.

Competition Start times

The Committee would like to remind all members that the starter for the day is in charge.

1/ You are not allowed to go before the official start time of the competition.

2/ If the starter asks you to move up a group because someone has had to withdraw you should comply with their request. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

It is perhaps worth pointing out the starter is also a member who has given up their time to act as starter. In most cases will not be teeing off until the end having spent the best part of 3 hours beforehand starting everyone else off. Generally most members are only too willing to be helpful and we thank you for this. However, with a number of new members it was felt it would be helpful to issue a reminder of the requirements.

Presentation Night

The Committee has concluded that it is highly unlikely that we will be able to hold our annual Presentation Night on the planned date of October 23. The Committee has decided to keep this event under review at each of its meetings before deciding how to go forward with it – if you have any views, please let a Committee member know.

The dates for competitions in upcoming weeks are as follows

Sat 19th Sept: Mens V Seniors Match
Sat 26th Sept: Jim Brady Cup
Weds 30th Sept: Veterans Championship, 9 Hole Qualifier (Mens & Ladies)

WHS - Privacy Notice

16 September 2020

To: All affiliated golf clubs

In preparation for the launch of the World Handicap System (WHS), which draws ever nearer, we are now in a position to provide all clubs with the wording of the England Golf WHS privacy notice. At England Golf we take the principles of Data Protection very seriously. We are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use our members’ data, and this privacy notice is an important part of that commitment.

The England Golf WHS privacy notice has been provided to all those ISVs that have been licensed by CONGU to have access to the WHS platform in England and will be displayed by ISVs on their platforms.

In addition, clubs will need to take steps to ensure that you have informed all members of the privacy notice as part of your ongoing communications around WHS by 5 October 2020. We appreciate that clubs will have their own ways of communicating with members, but you may wish to publish the notice on your website, include a link in your club newsletter, or email members directly with the notice.

Going forward, from 5 October 2020 the England Golf WHS privacy notice will need to be included in the documents provided to new members to ensure that they will be properly informed about how England Golf will handle their data with respect to handicapping. From that date any changes to member data will need to be made via the England Golf Platform, as set out in our email of 8 September 2020. There is no need for members to opt-in to the transfer of personal data to England Golf, and both members’ email address and date of birth will be required in order for us to issue a handicap. We will only use members’ data collected in this way for the purposes of handicapping or other fundamental benefits of being a member of England Golf. Full details are set out in the privacy notice itself.

Thank you for your continued support in helping to ensure that the transition to the WHS on 2 November 2020 is a smooth one and please don’t forget to utilise ourWHS resources online  which include the WHS club toolkit, to understand more and help educate your members.

Yours sincerely,

Jeremy Tomlinson

RODWAY HILL GOLF CLUB - CODE OF CONDUCT

Rodway Hill Golf Club is committed to providing an environment that is free from discrimination, harassment and intimidation for members and employees.

Members are advised that an acceptable standard of behaviour is expected in all areas of the Club and Course at all times and that upon payment of membership, all members give their consent to be bound by both the restrictions and penalties which may be imposed, for any breach of the Club’s standards, or serious misconduct, in failing to meet the standards set in this Code of Conduct.

This Code of Conduct has been set by the Committee and adopted as a Permanent Local Rule, as permitted by Rule 1.2b of the Rules of Golf.

ON THE COURSE

All golfers must:

Avoid slow play and apply the principles of Ready Golf by:

  • maintaining the pace of play by keeping up with the group in front. Your place is behind the group in front of you and not ahead of the group behind you.
  • waving through the following group when delayed by for example searching for balls

Adhere to the Rules of Golf, Local Rules and the General and Specific Terms of Competition.

Care for the Course by repairing pitch marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers.

Show respect towards their fellow golfers by not being aggressive, abusive, noisy or misusing equipment, show respect towards employees and officials and be aware that greens staff have priority.

IN THE CLUBHOUSE

Members must be aware that:

Any form of discrimination, harassment or intimidation is regarded as unacceptable behaviour.

The use of foul or abusive language has no place in the clubhouse.

Smoking or the use of e-cigarettes is not permitted within the Club buildings.

Whilst acknowledging that adult “banter” contributes towards creating a healthy atmosphere among members, care should be taken as some members may find it offensive or intimidating.

GENERAL

This Code of Conduct is not intended to create a bureaucratic, regulatory environment, but rather to promote and enhance the values of the Club.

Any member engaging in any behaviour that may be detrimental to the game of golf or Rodway Hill Golf Club, is in breach of the Code of Conduct and should be reported to the Committee. Any reported transgressions shall be scrutinised by the Disciplinary Committee, who may take appropriate disciplinary action.

Club Committee, January 2020.
